Field Trips to PRBO's Mist-netting Research Stations
(Marin County, all grades)
PRBO's Education Program offers field trips to PRBO's Palomarin Field Station and other Marin County sites to observe mist-netting and bird banding demonstrations.  Each year approximately 1,000 students participate in this program, providing them with the opportunity to observe science in action!

 Classroom and field visits
(Sonoma, Marin, and San Francisco Counties, all grades)

We have developed a suite of teacher-approved classroom lessons on bird ecology and other conservation themes.  Lesson plans are adaptable to all age groups.

PRBO educators meet with teachers and students in schoolyards, parks, and nearby Bay wetlands to observe birds and conduct field studies in local environments.  Students learn how birds use the natural areas within their community and about the conservation issues impacting these environments.

STRAW Program
(all grades)

Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed (STRAW) Project started in 1992 as the Shrimp Club in Laurette Rogers’ 4th grade classroom.  Students were inspired to help the endangered California Freshwater Shrimp along Stemple Creek by restoring its riparian (streamside) habitat.

Today, the STRAW Project coordinates and sustains a network of teachers, students, restoration specialists and other community members to plan and implement watershed studies and restoration projects in Marin, Sonoma, Solano and Napa counties that help restore ecosystems from shrimp to birds to people!
